Missing avatars

Postby Collector on 30 Jan 2010, 11:25 am

I just noticed that most members' avatars are missing. The sites being hosted through Almirena (and this is Almirena's site) were moved to new servers. This move was not without problems. Now the avatars seem to be broken. I could probably fix this if I had FTP access to this site, but I do not. Please upload your avatars, again, if you wish to use them.

I think there must be something else wrong because I tried uploading a new avatar and it still refuses to show up. When I checked, it was gone from my avatar-setting page again.

Not only that, but the upload page said the maximum file size for an avatar is 10kB, which I am sure was not the case earlier on.

And to further complicate matters, some avatars that do still display properly (such as your own, Collector, and Andrea's) are in fact well above that limit.

I have upped the size limit, but I don't seem to have permissions to purge the site's cache, which may solve to problem. As long as the other two are not going to be around, I wish I had been given FTP and full admin permissions, at least until they return. I am rather hamstrung in addressing some issues. Anyway, If the size limit is still not high enough, let me know.

I tried uploading a very small avatar again (9.63kB) and the same thing happened again: the system acknowledges that the profile has been updated, but the avatar is actually nowhere to be found.

I can certainly live with it myself for the time being (and it must be awkward for you looking after things without all the permissions), but thought it might be useful in diagnosing the problem if I just described what happened.

Another problem I am not sure who to contact about is that the Sierra Forums gateway seems to have been down for a couple of days now.

I think that purging the board's cache would fix it, but as I said, I don't have access to it. The Gateway was down for a day or so after the move, but it has been working for the last few days. Are you still unable to load it?

Yes, unlike yesterday, the gateway is now working for me too.
